Manuel Fernández Barba is an environmental scientist and oceanographer graduated from the Cadiz University (Spain) and specialized (MSc) in Coastal Oceanography. He has been working with satellite radar altimetry for the last three years, being part of the Applied Physics Department at the University of Cadiz, with the aim of assessing the improvement due to full SAR processing (CryoSat-2 and Sentinel-3A/B satellites) closer to the coast. His latest research assesses near-shore currents from S-3A and S-3B satellites in the Ebro Delta and Strait of Gibraltar using HF radar-derived current observations. Currently, he is working in the ecology and coastal management department of the ICMAN-CSIC, financed by the European Social Fund and the Youth Employment Initiative through the “Programa Operativo de Empleo Juvenil”. His research focuses in the development of satellite-based tools for physical-biological oceanographic processes observation.
