Ocean Colour Near Real-Time monitoring service in the Gulf of Cadiz

Daily sea surface level-3 and level-4 high-resolution data (300m and 1km) derived from multiple sensors, including the Ocean and Land Colour Instrument (OLCI) onboard the Sentinel-3A and Sentinel-3B twin satellites of the European Commission’s Copernicus program and EUMETSAT.

The ocean colour products correspond to:

  • Sea Surface Temperature (SST) daily gap-free (L4) map interpolated from high (HR 0.0625°) and ultra-high (UHR 0.01°) spatial resolution data over the Southern European Seas. Based on the night-time images collected by the infrared sensors mounted on different satellite platforms (AATSR, SEVIRI, AVHRR, MODIS, VIIRS, SLSTR)
  • The volume absorption coefficient of radiative flux in sea water due to dissolved organic matter and non-algal particles (ADG) is derived from the CCI multiple-sensor product and is remapped at nominal 1 km spatial resolution using cylindrical equirectangular projection. ADG is described in the PML Inherent Optical Property model (Smyth, T.J., Moore, G.F., Hirata, T. Aiken, J., 2006), a semi-analytic model for the derivation of ocean color inherent optical properties.
  • Inorganic Suspended Particulate Matter (SPM) is derived from the CCI multiple-sensor product and is remapped at nominal 1 km spatial resolution using cylindrical equirectangular projection. SPM is defined as all inorganic matter that stays on a glass fiber filter with an approximate pore size of 0.7 micrometers.
